Drugs correlation with Mental Health

In terms of addiction, addiction is one of the worst possible effects of drugs. your brain is wired to make you do what makes you feel good/happy, so when you take a drug that diminishes those sad/depressing feelings your body is aware and wants to do it more often. Dopamine is a chemical in your brain that triggers intense pleasure in your brain.
In some of Mac's songs in his album 'Circles', the lyrics reflect the signs and symptoms. The symptoms that reflect his lyrics are 'guilt', 'loss of energy', feeling restless', 'excessive worry', and 'anger and rage'.
In Malcolm's case, he started drugs at a very early age so the risk of addiction was very high from the start. When Mac was signed to a record label the drugs started happening more often and higher quality. According to the article 'Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues', "roughly 50 percent of individuals with severe mental disorders are affected by substance abuse". One of the possibilities in Mac's case is he took drugs to 'diminish' the thoughts and emotions that swirled around in his head. on the other hand, Drug could've triggered the start of his mental health problems. For Example, in this article, the author talks about a piece of evidence that backs up this thought, "There is some evidence, for example, that certain abusers of marijuana have an increased risk of psychosis while those who abuse opioid painkillers are at greater risk for depression" (Saisan).
